CASES WE HAVE SUPPORTED

On 30 May, 2019, our lawyer won for the release of the Mogadishu-based Goobjoog Media journalist Ali Adan Mumin who was arrested on 24 May, 2019 over Facebook posts. He was in detention for four days before the Banadir Regional Court found no guilty in all the charges brought by the State Prosecutor.

On 29 July, 2019, a lawyer representing Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) won for the release of Garowe-based freelance journalist Mohamed Said Yusuf who was arrested on 13th of that month following his interview with a local elder who publicly criticized the president of Puntland. The journalist was freed after 16 days in jail, thanks to the support from the Media Legal Defense Initiative (MLDI).
